Hello,
My name is John Hine.
I want to help you learn the simple Tai Chi moves that have helped people all over the world to regain flexibility and strength, recover from injury and illness and reduce stress and pain by energizing their core strength.
I have been training in the health and martial arts for over 45 years and in that time I have helped thousands and thousands of people learn how to lead healthier and happier lives with Tai Chi. As a founding member of the Tai Chi Union for Great Britain and owner of one of the longest established and successful modern Tai Chi schools in the UK, I am passionate about helping others “move” their way to a better life.
Would you like to feel a little bit more like you did when you were younger? A little more pep – free to move without pain and stiffness; free to move with balance, confidence and strength? Would you like to feel a bit more mentally focused, have a bit more peace of mind and let go of the built up chronic tension?
Modern research shows that Tai Chi helps alleviate chronic pain, improves everyday flexibility and strength, improves cardiovascular fitness, alleviates stress and anxiety and helps you relax and enjoy life with a more positive outlook. Read on to discover how to get moving and feeling better.
Modern Tai Chi can help you connect to
your core energy. Anyone can move with
strength and freedom by connecting to their core.
Movefree Tai Chi uses specifically selected Tai Chi movements to gently warm and stretch every part of your body connecting you to your core strength, and improving circulation, flexibility and relaxation.
The unique healing power of Tai Chi…
Get energized from the inside out – in both body and mind.
Tai Chi doesn’t just benefit your body. Combined with focused attention on form, and deep breathing, Tai Chi has a meditative healing quality that also benefits your mental and emotional state.
Modern scientific medical studies suggest that Tai Chi practice:
- Improves balance, flexibility & strength
- Reduces anxiety and depression
- Improves sleep quality
- Boosts immunity
- Relieves chronic pain
- Increases energy and endurance
- Lowers blood pressure
- Slows bone loss in women after menopause

“MoveFree!” – in the comfort of your own home – no matter your age or fitness level.
These moves are really simple. Any one, of any age can learn them in as little as 10-15 minutes per day. Tai Chi is known for being very low impact. In fact it is sometimes called the ‘moving meditation.’
But, don’t let that fool you. You will still feel the results if you invest just a few minutes each day to follow along with the simple 2-minute tutorials. Each move builds on the next, so you always learning just a little bite-sized piece at a time. Each DVD gives you everything you need to complete all the routines on that Tai Chi DVD.
We have also targeted these routines to specific goals.

How Tai Chi Works
Unlike most other forms of exercise,
Tai Chi works on your ‘whole’ health.
Your health is not only impacted by age, nutrition, genetics and the environment. Your health is also impacted by your stress level, your mental outlook, and by your core power.
Stress has been shown to compromise your immune system and speed the signs of aging. Stress can actually cause physiological changes in your body. It is even more likely to lead to unhealthy coping behavior that harms your body, for example: smoking and drinking to relax, or overeating. Tai Chi is a slow, meditative form of exercise that leaves you feeling calm and centered.
Tai Chi engages your whole body.
The movements are simple, but they require you to engage a wide range of muscles starting with your core (hips, abdomen) and legs for the Tai Chi stance, and then your arms, upper torso, shoulders and neck in easy flowing movements.
Tai Chi gets your circulatory system flowing, stimulates your lymph system (important to immune health), and even goes deeper to activate your body’s power system, which many argue is the true foundation of all health and well-being.
Tai Chi is both physical and mental.
While the movements in Tai Chi are slow and simple, the focus is on doing them ‘well.’ This takes concentration and attention. It fully engages your mind throughout every movement. This is not like mindless exercise on a treadmill. As you focus your mind on your posture, your breathing, the shape of your movements, and on the flowing dance-like quality of the moves, you strengthen mental focus, release mental tension, and create a meditative mental state that encourages feelings of inner peace and well being.
Tai Chi connects you to your core muscles.
In order to do Tai Chi, you will learn how to gently engage your core muscles throughout the routine and to “ground” yourself through your legs to the floor. Your body will naturally carry this new ability into your every day movement. This is how you become less prone to injury and falls, more balanced, and increase your mobility.
Surprisingly, this connection to your core and to the ground in exercise also makes you feel more confident and peaceful in life. The feeling of physical stability subtly influences your mental outlook causing you to feel safer and stronger interacting with the world.
Tai Chi encourages healthy posture.
Many of our day-to-day pains, from headaches, back aches, and neck pain, to even shoulder, wrist, elbow, knee and ankle pain, are often simply the result of poor posture and weakness in the muscles required to support good posture.
Hyper-extension in your lower back due to weak abdominal muscles can cause not only back pain, but serious hip, knee and ankle problems, too.
Poor shoulder strength can cause upper back and neck pain, and even wrist and arm problems. After all, it is all one connected system, right?
Tai Chi targets and strengthens the under-used muscles required for good, healthy posture. It teaches good relaxed posture through the Tai Chi ‘stances’ and ‘forms.’ Improving your posture alone can result in curing a number of other related pains and problems.
Medical Research Confirms the Benefits of Tai Chi
Based on recent research findings, medical doctors, physical therapists, and psychologists are recommending Tai Chi to more often to their patients
If millions of people practicing Tai Chi daily is not enough to convince you that it can work for you, then take a look at some of the more recent scientific studies confirming what Far Eastern cultures have believed for thousands of years:

Who Can Do Tai Chi with my Tai Chi DVD set?
Tai Chi is a form of “low impact” movement. It is sometimes even called “moving meditation.” This can be done by virtually anyone no matter their age or current level of fitness.
Seated, Standing
Each Tai Chi DVD in my Movefree Tai Chi DVD Program includes slow demonstration and explanation of every move – both seated and standing. If you have mobility issues, injuries, balance issues, or are recovering, feel free to start with the seated version. Once you are familiar with the moves, you can choose either a seated or standing version of the ‘follow along’ section for daily practice.
Fast or Slow
Each of the moves is based on a few simple ‘stances’ that you will quickly learn at the beginning of each DVD. Once you know the two or three stances that will be used for that DVD, everything else is simple, incremental variation building upon what you have already learned on that DVD.
Each DVD offers two different demonstration sections. The first is a much slower section full of expert explanation from your experienced instructor, John Hine. You will quickly feel comfortable with these moves and no longer need to watch the slower instruction. At that point, you can simply watch the guided ‘Follow Along’ section. The follow along is set to relaxing music, and features John Hine performing the moves for you to follow along at regular speed.
High effort, Low effort
Throughout the instructional DVD your instructor, John Hine, will give you special information to help you scale your movements to fit your particular situation. John has over 30 years experience as a Tai Chi instructor. You will find his style is easy, friendly, and very thorough.
Tai Chi moves can be done for as short or long a duration as you need. When you start out, you may do each move for under one minute. If you are more fit and want more intensity, simply extend your time on each move up to 5 or even 10 minutes per move. It is common Tai Chi practice to start with as little as 15 minutes of total exercise and, if you choose, build up the length of your exercise period.
